What role does the X2 capacitor play in the circuit?


1. It is used for anti-electromagnetic interference in power supply.

For example, X2 safety capacitors are indispensable on switching power supplies and chargers. They are generally used between the neutral wire and the live wire to suppress differential mode interference. Generally, they need to be used in conjunction with Y capacitors. Y capacitors are used for suppress common mode interference, which are essential capacitors on the power supply. Generally, the function of the X2 capacitor is to suppress the electromagnetic interference of the power supply. Its withstand voltage in the industry is the lowest 275VAC, but now most of them are 310VAC, and the better rated voltage is 350VAC/380VAC. Anyone who understands capacitors knows that the higher the withstand voltage of the capacitor, the safer it is to use it.



2. It is used in resistance-capacitance step-down circuit.

In addition to suppressing the electromagnetic interference of the power supply, the X2 capacitor can also be used in a resistance-capacitance step-down circuit. The resistance-capacitance step-down circuit is very simple, uses only a few electronic components, and has a particularly low cost. The RC step-down circuit is prone to capacitance attenuation, which eventually leads to insufficient power supply of the circuit and cannot be used. X2 safety capacitors have a dedicated RC step-down model, so that its capacitance attenuation can be controlled very slowly, which can make the resistance-capacitor voltage drop. Buck circuits have a longer lifespan. When used, it is generally connected in series in the circuit.


Although X2 capacitors have other uses, in actual use, the most common functions are the above two.
