1.Identify from the capacitor identification

For larger film capacitors, their material is generally printed on the capacitor. For example, those starting with CBB are metallized polypropylene film capacitors, such as CBB21/CBB22/CBB13/CBB81/CBB20, etc. There is also one that starts with CL They are generally metallized polyester film capacitors, such as CL21/CL11.

2. Use professional equipment to test.

CL capacitors and CBB capacitors have little difference in appearance, but the electrical properties of loss are quite different. The loss of CBB capacitor is smaller than that of CL capacitor. Under the condition of 1kHz frequency, the loss tangent value of CBB capacitor is generally less than 0.001, while the loss tangent value of CL capacitor is less than 0.01. We can use professional instruments to test the loss value of the capacitor. Through the loss value, it is easy to see what kind of material the capacitor is used.
