Varistors are one of our common capacitors. Varistors are widely used in electronic devices to protect them from possible damage due to sudden changes in voltage in the power supply system. Some people may have no idea about how to test the voltage of the varistor. This article may give you the answer.
Two varistor test methods:
1)Test with a varistor DC parameter meter (the device will give 1mA or 0.1mA DC current, and the parameter meter will directly show the voltage across the varistor, which is the varistor voltage).
2)Simulate with a simple device, that is, adjust the current of a current source (constant current source) to 1mA or 0.1mA DC current and apply it between the two pins of the varistor, and at the same time use a multimeter to test the voltage at both ends, which is approximately considered to be the sensitive voltage. This method requires high accuracy of the current source and multimeter, and is often not very accurate due to various influences. In addition, the test time must be controlled, and the test is required to be completed within 5s, and the shorter the time, the better. A rough judgment can be made temporarily, and long-term use is not recommended.
