What May Causes Damage to A Thermistor

Thermistor is a sensor resistor whose resistance value changes with temperature. According to the temperature coefficient, it is divided into positive temperature coefficient thermistor and negative temperature coefficient thermistor. Thermistor is an important circuit protection electronic device in the circuit. What details do we need to pay attention to when using a thermistor?


Thermistor's Working Characteristics:

1) High sensitivity. The temperature coefficient of resistance is 10-100 times larger than that of metal, and temperature change of 10-6℃ can be measured;

2) Wide operating temperature range. Normal temperature devices are suitable for -55℃~315℃, high temperature devices are suitable for higher than 315℃ (currently up to 2000℃), low temperature devices are suitable for -273℃~-55℃;

3) Small size. Able to measure the temperature of voids, cavities and blood vessels in organisms that cannot be measured by other thermometers;

4) Easy to use, resistance value can be arbitrarily selected between 0.1~100kΩ;

5) It is easy to be processed into complex shapes and can be produced in large quantities;

6) Good stability and strong overload capacity.


What May Causes Damage to A Thermistor


Precautions for using thermistor:

1) Precautions for use in high temperature and high humidity environments.

If the thermistor needs to be used in a high temperature and high humidity environment, a sheathed thermistor should be used, and the protective cover should be used to close the part exposed to the environment (water, humidity), and the opening of the sheath can not directly touch water and steam.

2) Cannot be used in hazardous gas or liquid environment.

Do not use it in a corrosive gas environment or in an environment where it will come into contact with electrolyte liquid, salt water, acid, alkali, and solvent.

3) Protect the wires.

Do not excessively stretch or bend the wire, and do not apply excessive vibration, shock, and pressure.

4) Keep away from heating electronic components.

Avoid installing electronic components that are easy to heat around the power NTC thermistor. It is recommended to use products with longer leads on the upper part of the bent leg, and put NTC thermistors at a higher place than other components on the circuit board to prevent heat from affecting the normal operation of other components.
