MLCC, or Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor, is an electronic component extensively used in modern electronic devices. Due to its advantages such as miniaturization, high capacitance, and low cost, MLCCs find widespread application in portable devices like smartphones and tablets.

The distinctive feature of MLCC, setting it apart from other ceramic capacitors, lies in the significant difference in size. The volume of MLCCs is very small, while other ceramic capacitors have volumes tens of times larger than MLCCs. The small size of MLCCs can be attributed to the following factors:

 

High-Frequency Characteristics:

The smaller the size of MLCC, the better its high-frequency characteristics. Improved high-frequency characteristics enable MLCCs to effectively handle high-speed signals, meeting the high-frequency operational requirements of modern electronic devices.

 

Reducing Parasitic Effects:

Parasitic effects refer to additional effects generated by electronic components during operation, which can lead to a decline in signal quality and performance. By reducing the size of MLCCs, the impact of parasitic effects is minimized, enhancing the overall performance of the components.

 

Adaptation to Surface Mount Technology:

Surface mount technology involves directly mounting electronic components on circuit boards. This process requires small-sized electronic components with good solderability. The smaller the size of MLCCs, the more easily they can adapt to this technology, reducing manufacturing complexity and costs.

 

Increased Integration:

Decreasing the size of MLCCs contributes to higher integration levels in electronic devices. The smaller MLCCs result in more efficient utilization of space on circuit boards, accommodating more components and functional modules. This aids in reducing device volume, enhancing performance, and lowering costs.
