When we refer to thermistors, we are essentially combining the terms 'thermal' and 'resistor' (denoting electrical resistance). Essentially, thermistors are electronic components that modify the flow of electrical current based on temperature-related factors. This additional safety feature detects anomalies like a hair dryer falling into a bathtub and rapidly overheating the circuit, triggering the GFCI breaker and potentially preventing accidents.
Portable electric heaters: Several types of home heating units utilize thermistors to monitor the presence of excessive heat and automatically shut down the circuit for safety purposes.
