Supercapacitors are a new type of electrochemical capacitors, also known as electric double layer capacitors and farad capacitors. Supercapacitors, which use polarized electrolytes to store energy, have been developed since the 1970s and 1980s. Electric double layer capacitor: The two electrodes in the capacitor are inserted into the electrolyte at the same time, and a voltage less than the decomposition voltage of the electrolyte solution is applied between the two electrodes. The positive and negative ions in the electrolyte move to the two poles under the action of the electric field. A dense charge layer is formed on the surface of the electrode, that is, the electric double layer, which is the origin of the name of the electric double layer capacitor.
Farad capacitors: In the case of similar volume, the capacitance of super capacitors is much larger than that of ordinary capacitors. The capacitance of ordinary capacitors is as small as the microfarad level, while the capacitance of supercapacitors has reached the farad level, so supercapacitors are also called farad capacitors.
The origin of the names of electric double layer capacitors and farad capacitors is based on the principles or characteristics of super capacitors. Other capacitors also have other names, which are also named according to their own characteristics or principles.
