Varistor is a voltage-limiting protection device. The selection of the varistor voltage should be appropriate, because too high or too low voltage will cause the following negative results:
1)If the voltage value of the varistor is too high, it is equivalent to increasing the operating voltage of the protection circuit, and the corresponding residual voltage will increase, so the varistor may not be able to properly play the protection role
2) If the varistor voltage is too low, frequent over-voltage shocks will reduce the performance of the varistor and increase the leakage current. The correct selection method of varistor voltage:
When the varistor is working, the power supply voltage at both ends cannot exceed the continuous working voltage specified in the specification. That is, the large DC working voltage of the varistor must be greater than the DC working voltage (VIN) of the power line (signal line), that is, VDC≥VIN; for the varistor selection of 220V AC power, the fluctuation range of the grid working voltage should be considered, and the varistor voltage must cover the range.
